Battle-tested Pentucket upsets Bishop Fenwick

The Pentucket girls lacrosse team isn't the type of group to fold mentally before the first minute even ticks off the clock in a state tournament game.

Even as a lower seeded team yesterday, the No. 14 seed Sachems avoided thoughts of doubt and hesitation in eliminating No. 3 Bishop Fenwick Crusaders (15-3) in the opening round of the EMass. Division 2 North Tournament. After registering a 19-14 victory, Pentucket will play No. 6 Georgetown in the quarterfinal.

Tarr taking his records in stride

Bobby Tarr1 Photo

In his three years as a member of the varsity football team at Bishop Fenwick, only Matt Morrison has been able to contain Bobby Tarr.

Every week teams line up 10 and 11 defenders in the box defensively, with two or three shadows focused solely on stopping Tarr, Fenwick's star running back. And every week through two football seasons, Tarr has piled on the yards. It was Morrison, Fenwick's starting tailback in 2005, who kept the Crusaders' record-breaking back from routinely surpassing 200 yards per game.

Bishop Fenwick football turns back St. Mary's

LYNN | Manning Field seemed like a forbidding place for the Bishop Fenwick football team to revive its season Saturday.

It was a dark, dreary atmosphere, with the skies threatening a downpour throughout the afternoon, and the shaky Crusaders were fighting a two-game losing streak in which they had been burned for a total of 64 points.

Despite Tarr's 325 yards, Fenwick can't stop Arlington Catholic

ARLINGTON | The two or three shadows Arlington Catholic coach Serge Clivio assigned weren't enough to slow down Bishop Fenwick running back Bobby Tarr. But neither Tarr, his 325 yards rushing or the torrential rain that drifted over Arlington High School in the second half was enough to derail the Cougars' potent offense. Arlington Catholic built a first half lead and matched Fenwick's three second half touchdowns for a 42-26 win.

Swampscott defense takes a stand, stops Fenwick

PEABODY | Bishop Fenwick's Bobby Tarr needed only one more yard to surpass 200 yards on the ground for the fourth time in six games this season.

Had he picked up that single yard, the undermanned Crusaders might have shocked Swampscott at Donaldson Field last night.
