The second-year Bishop Fenwick girls lacrosse team has proven it can win games. Yesterday, the Crusaders showed they are capable of erasing deficits on the way to victory.

Senior captain Casey Otovic rolled around the cage after a restart and scored the game-winner | her only tally of the afternoon | with 25 seconds left as Fenwick improved to 10-0 with 10-9 win over Austin Prep.

Archbishop Williams pushed two across in the sixth and the Crusaders (3-6) left the bases loaded in the seventh in a frustrating 2-1 setback. Allyssa Begin pitched five strong innings with six strikeouts while Casey Fitzgerald had a hit and made two great catched in leftfield to keep the game scoreless through five.

Fenwick girls lax outlasts AC to remain unbeaten

The biggest test of the Bishop Fenwick girls lacrosse team's season was passed with flying colors last night.

Playing under the lights on their turf field, Fenwick got six goals from junior scoring machine Bridget Dullea and held off Catholic Central League rival Arlington Catholic, 12-11, in a battle of league unbeatens.

AC tops Bishop Fenwick

The Crusaders (5-7) trailed 9-4 at the break and couldn't get as much offense as they needed in the second half in falling to AC 13-8. Pat Doliber scored twice and dished out four assists to pace the Fenwick attack while Joe Flaherty had a hat trick, Eamon Barrett notched a goal with an assist and Mike Buonfiglio and Joe Gardinoli added single goals.
Craig Forrest stopped 12 shots in the Crusader net.

Doliber tops century mark in Fenwick win

Pat Doliber assisted on Eamon Barrett's game-winner to collect the 100th point of his career Saturday as Fenwick (5-6) broke a late 4-4 tie to top Matignon 5-4. Doliber also had two goals and Mike Buonfiglio collected a goal as the Crusaders led 3-1 at half before Matignon came roaring back.

Fenwick still perfect

Junior Bridget Dullea racked up seven goals as the Crusaders (8-0) stayed perfect on the season with a 16-6 riumph over Matignon. Rebecca Graves added a hat trick as Fenwick led 9-5 at the half and never let up. Goalie Jill DeFrancesco stopped nine shots while Ellen O'Leary, Amelia Santos and Casey Otovic all chipped in with a pair of goals.

Fenwick in search of defense

Courtney Begin started off 2-3 on the mound for Bishop Fenwick, but that seems to be the least of the Crusaders problems. Bishop Fenwick (3-4 overall) needs to stabilize its defense if it's going to make a run at a .500 record and a berth in the state tourney.

Crusaders' rally falls short

The Crusaders (4-6) showed their mettle in rallying from a 6-2 halftime deficit, but Williams hung on for the 9-7 victory. Pat Doliber and Eamon Barrett notched hat tricks to pace Fenwick's offense while Craig Forrest made 18 saves in net.

Youngsters key Fenwick rout

It was a banner day for Fenwick's youngesters as sophomores Amanda McInnis (2-for-3, 3 runs, RBI), Danielle Dinuccio (2-for-3, run, 2 RBI) and freshman Amy Pelletier (1-for-2, 2 RBI) keyed the 13-0 rout of East Boston. Sophomore Alyssa Begin shined on the hill for the Crusaders (3-4) with a complete game two-hitter and 11 strikeouts.

Eight Crusader errors helped AC score four unearned runs and Fenwick's offense couldn't muster enough production to compensate in a 6-0 loss. Courtney Begin, Alyssa Begin and Amanda McInnis accounted for the only hits for the Crusaders (2-3).

Flaherty's hat trick paces Fenwick

Sophomore Joey Flaherty got his first varsity goal and didn't stop there, recording a hat trick to pace the Crusaders (4-4) over St. Mary's 6-4. Pat Doliber added a goal and an assist and goalie Craig Forrest stopped 15 shots to make an early 5-1 lead stand up.

Masco going batty early in the season

Cold weather is the bane of a hitter's existence in the spring, but Masconomet seems to have a found a way around it early in the season. Masconomet scored 17 runs against Everett in its opener, 12 against Gloucester in its next game, and it thumped Bishop Fenwick, 10-0, yesterday.

Not a dull day for Fenwick's Dullea

Bridget Dullea had one of those days she will probably never forgot.

"I just kept scoring ... it was ridiculous," the 16-year-old junior attack from Peabody said after reaching an individual milestone with eight goals and one assist as Bishop Fenwick (4-0) held off Gloucester, 12-11, in girls' lacrosse on the Fenwick campus yesterday. Her nine-point flurry was a school mark in addition to the eight strikes.

Pisani strong as Fenwick gets first win

Anthony Pisani tossed seven strong innings and the Crusaders (1-2) got clutch hits to deliver coach Russ Steeves his first win as head coach, 3-1 over St. Peer Marian.

Tommy Moules knocked in a run in the fifth and Rich Dulkis drove in a pair in the sixth to spot the Crusaders a 3-0 lead. It was all the URI-bound Pisani (seven strikeouts, four hits) needed.

The Pioneers held an 8-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter and were able to hold off Bishop Fenwick's rally as the Crusders fell 11-9.

Brittany Dolan took first place in the high hurdles (17.8), 100 meter dash (13.7) and triple jump (27-10) to lead the unbeaten Crusaders (1-0). Ali Trainor added a pair of victories in the 2-mile (12:54.9) and the 800 (2:46.5) while Lexi Culkeen won the shot put (33-6) and Maddy Bissallion took first in the discus (114-3).

It appeared the two teams would have to settle for one point each when they faced off against each other last night at the Rockett Arena. That is, until Marblehead junior scored on a rebound with just over a minute left, powering the Headers to a 2-1 victory.

First half analysis: There's more scoring here than anyone thought possible; Pat Doliber, Mark Sparaco, Dale Crispin, Jordan Mizioch and John Luti have combined for 86 points thus far. Newcomers Crispin and Sparaco have been pleasant surprises. Goaltending and defense need work, however; those areas have hurt Fenwick at times. Monday's 6-0 win over Swampscott (with 44 saves from Craig Forrest) was a good step in the right direction.

Renzulli's late tally powers Fenwick icemen past Jets

Fenwick's Kennedy steals some spotlight

PEABODY | Thanksgiving Day at Donaldson Field was supposed to be the Bobby Tarr Show. Bishop Fenwick's record-breaking back had to share the spotlight with junior Dan Kennedy, however.

Kennedy scored Fenwick's first touchdown in the second quarter on a 10-yard run and returned an interception 60 yards for another score as the Crusaders overpowered Austin Prep, 28-16.

In his three years as a member of the varsity football team at Bishop Fenwick, only Matt Morrison has been able to contain Bobby Tarr.

Every week teams line up 10 and 11 defenders in the box defensively, with two or three shadows focused solely on stopping Tarr, Fenwick's star running back. And every week through two football seasons, Tarr has piled on the yards. Bishop Fenwick's girls soccer team won its second Catholic Central League title in the last three years with a satisfying 2-0 defeat of league rival Arlington Catholic yesterday.

"We always have high goals and one is to win the league," said Crusaders head coach Karen Guillemette. "I've been pleasantly surprised with our success."

LYNN | Manning Field seemed like a forbidding place for the Bishop Fenwick football team to revive its season Saturday.

ARLINGTON | The two or three shadows Arlington Catholic coach Serge Clivio assigned weren't enough to slow down Bishop Fenwick running back Bobby Tarr. But neither Tarr, his 325 yards rushing or the torrential rain that drifted over Arlington High School in the second half was enough to derail the Cougars' potent offense. Arlington Catholic built a first half lead and matched Fenwick's three second half touchdowns for a 42-26 win.
