Brooks gets winning run in 7th

Brooks Baseball and the Knights from BBN hooked up in what was a top notch high school baseball game. The two teams battled all afternoon as the pitching set the pace for what was a quick and clean baseball game. Michael Johnson was the stand out of the day as the junior left hander pitched a complete game to carry Brooks to victory.

Brooks opens with win over Pingree

The Brooks Baseball Team opened the 2008 spring season with a solid 10-8 victory over a tough Pingree squad. Brooks was lead by junior hurler Michael Johnson who mixed a sharp breaking ball with his over powering fastball to strike out 10 and only allow 2 earned runs over 5 strong innings. Sophomore Jason Buco finished the job by striking out 5 over the last two frames. In the batters box the Brooks offense came out swinging to score 4 times in their first inning of the season.

For the record, the bribe was made but never paid. Brooks School senior Jordan Mickens was that desperate to talk Bradford's Alex Skinner into playing basketball this winter.

"I offered him $10,000, I would have done anything," joked Mickens, the New Jersey native and only returning starter from last year's team. "He's such a good shooter. I knew we needed him."

Crowley paces Brooks

Peter Crowley made 17 saves to lead Brooks to a 2-1 win over Kingswood-Oxford in the Prep Class A quarterfinals.

The Green and White took the lead when Ayo Iwuagwu banged in a rebound off a shot from North Andover's Chris Gilbert. Andover's Jimmy Campbell added the first Brooks goal on a rocketed 26-yarder early in the half. Brooks will face Roxbury Latin on Saturday.

Amelia Hammerl and Eliza Marshall each netted a goal in the final seven minutes to power Brooks past Nobles, 2-0. Marshall picked up the assist on Hammerl's goal, and Hammerl picked up the assist on Marshall's goal as each player finished with two points. Goalkeeper Britt Hart stopped six shots to earn the shutout for Brooks, who improved to 11-2-1.

Pelham rolls past Newport

Brooks gave up two touchdowns in the first quarter and never recovered, losing to Thayer Academy 34-14. "We did some good things, but they were just a better team," said Brooks coach John Quirk.

Among the highlights for Brooks were two long TD passes from Jason Buco, of 75 and 69 yards, and 102 yards rushing from Robert Perryman. Senior Jason Adames of Lawrence scored his first career TD on the 75-yard Buco pass and also had an interception.

Brooks finally found a rhythm on offense. Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, Lawrence Academy was operating on a higher level and ran away for a 48-26 win.

Spartan running back Chris Lane ran past Brooks for 287 yards and six touchdowns as Lawrence Academy accumulated 425 rushing yards as a team. Lane touched the ball on 34 of Lawrence's 52 running plays.

BB&N's McCaffrey gives Brooks fits

CAMBRIDGE | Brooks will be having nightmares about BB&N's Jimmy McCaffrey for weeks.

The sophomore sensation, son of Holy Cross basketball Hall of Famer Jim McCaffrey, scored on two punt returns | a 65-yarder and a 52-yarder | in a 35-6 season-opening win over the Green and White. McCaffrey, a 5-11, 171-pound transfer from Winchester High, also scored on a 35-yard pass from quarterback Michael DiChiara. He now has five TDs in two games.
