Tatiana Perez had two hits, including a three-run homer, and six RBIs to lead Greater Lawrence to a 17-10 win over PMA. According to coach Jay Santomassino, it was the first win for Reggies over the Panthers since the 1988 season.

Newburyport pressure too much for PMA

After winning the Commonwealth Conference Small division, Presentation of Mary had high hopes of a long state tournament run.

Instead, the No. 7 Panthers ran into ferocious Newburyport, which overwhelmed PMA, 49-28, in the first round of the Division 3 North tourney.

PMA charges back for big win

Presentation of Mary stormed back from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to stun Lynn Tech 43-39, the second-place team in the Commonwealth Conference large division.

"It was a big win for us," said PMA coach Bob Melillo. "From what I'm told, we haven't beaten them in six years."

Martin's big second half leads Whittier

HAVERHILL | After a tough first half of fighting through double teams, freshman Danielle Martin turned it on in the second half to finish her night with a game-high 15 points and lead Whittier to a 30-27 victory over Presentation of Mary.

Veteran local coach Melillo hired at PMA

Over the course of the last 30 years, North Andover's Bob Melillo has coached at nearly every imaginable level of basketball.

From being a head men's basketball coach at Fitchburg State, to coaching boys as the head man at tiny (St. Clement in Somerville) and large (Lowell) high schools, to coaching girls AAU teams for the Eastern Mass. Lightning/Warriors, he has indeed covered a wide spectrum.

Tarbox clan synonymous with soccer success

Bill Tarbox's recent 58th birthday dinner involved more soccer talk than pizza consumption.

Among all the analysis and strategy, the group found time to take bites. But not many.

"My mom (Gail) and my wife (Ruth) have to put up with a lot," said Fred Tarbox, Bill's son. "All we talk about is soccer. It's constant."

Brasil a bright spot for PMA

Northeast tripped PMA, 2-1. Jessica Brasil tallied for the Panthers. Maggie Donohoe played an inspired game in the loss but had the misfortune of breaking her leg in the final seconds of the game. Jessica Biggart also played well.

PMA bests Minuteman

Jessica Brasil scored her second goal 20 minutes into the second half and that was the difference as PMA beat Minuteman, 4-3. Stephanie Mitrano also scored twice and Lee Ann Walker anchored the defense.

PMA beats Lynn Tech

Jessica Brasil tallied a hat trick to vault PMA past Lynn Tech 4-0. Stephanie Mitrano scored the other goal while Megan Peeler and Leeann Walker each had an assist for the Panthers.

Presentation of Mary loses by one

Jessica Brasil scored a pair of goals, but Presentation of Mary fell to Lowell Catholic 3-2. Maggie Donohoe, Margaret McDonough and Megan Peeler all played well for PMA, which had several chances in the second half but could not tie it up late.
