A long time coming

Superior 3-point shooting made the difference as Georgetown beat North Reading for the first time in four years, 57-53. Kristin Hogan drained six 3's in a 26-point effort, raising her season trifecta total to 36. Diminutive guard Marisa Agganis hauled down 10 rebounds and scored nine points in the victory.

Huge Hornet rally falls short

Georgetown showed its best defense (holding North Reading to just two free throws in the first quarter) and its worst (giving up 38 points in a furious Hornet fourth-quarter comeback) last night, but timely free throw shooting saved the Royals in a 71-68 victory. North Reading carved a 17-point deficit down to three behind 21 points from Tommy Hogan, but Tyler Wade (24 points) and Pat Bjork (16 points) hit 13 foul shots down the stretch to preserve the win.

North Reading's girls track team pulled out a tight victory in the meet-ending relay to defeat Lynnfield, 47-39. Gina D'Alelio, Emily Schille, Briana Goddard and Rachel Roberts came together for the win to get the Hornets to the .500 mark.

North Reading's boys track team pieced together a good win, beating Lynnfield, 54-32 behind Michael Bitto, who won the hurdles in 7.6 and finished second in the high jump at 5-2.

Pentucket qualifies two relays for states

Pentucket's Molly Smith, Rachel Perry, Ali Attenasio and Chase Marcotte placed fifth in the shuttle hurdles with a time of 32.88 at the Division 3 relays at the Reggie Lewis Center. Pentucket's Liz Beauregard, Brianna Repke, Emma Marchant and Kelsey Pratt qualified for states in the 4x800 with a 10:30.83. Marisa Lundy, Colleen Kilian, Tori Spofford and Charlotte Merritt qualified for states in the 4x200 with a 1:55.47.
