Hammar, Gray strong in states

It took a record-breaking time to keep Steven Hammar from victory.

The Pelham runner placed second in the 1,500 meter run at the Division 2 state championships at Dartmouth, bested by Bow's Jonathan Vinnenberg in a time of 4:06.50 that was almost five seconds faster than the two-year-old record he broke. Hammar ran a personal-best 4:15.54 as runner-up.

Kristen goes fourth

Windham freshman Kristen Tilley led local finishers in yesterday's Division 2 state championship meet at Dartmouth, placing fourth in the 600 with a school-record 1:42.69. Teammate Kate Farrell came in fifth in the 3,000 in 11:11.82, also a school record by over a second for the senior.

Windham's Patrick Fitzgerald placed second in the 55 meter hurdles (8.1 seconds) and fourth in the long jump (19-8 1/4) to led area Division 2 athletes at their qualifying session at UNH.
