The Sanborn girls basketball team fell to Epping, 51-40, in last night's season opener. Marianna Brown led the team in scoring with nine points, followed closely by Shannon Snively (seven points). The Indians had no answer last night for the Fiori sisters, who combined for 35 of the team's 51 points.

Epping — The lingering question of the week was if Bruce Vieira was healthy or not?

Next week no such questions will be asked as Vieira ran for 119 yards on just 12 carries as he scored three times to lead Pelham over Epping 43-0.

Sanborn topped Epping 4-1. Danika Smith's three-run triple in the bottom of the first helped propel the Indians to the win. Stacie Blades picked up the win and sister Kayle Blades drove in a run.

This game almost could have been played on an arena football-sized field.

Pelham's defense and special teams were so dominant, Epping couldn't get out of its own end of the field. Of 52 offensive plays run by the Pythons, only eight started on their own side of the 50-yard-line. Add in five Epping turnovers and the rout was on as Pelham (now 6-0) made the Blue Devils (2-4) even bluer, 55-13.
