Woelfel's hattie tops Haverhill

Ironic that it should be a Haverhill native to lead St. John's Prep in a 4-1 rout of Haverhill High, but that's exactly what happened as Jon Woelfel netted a hat trick in the second half in yesterday's Division 1 North first round.

North Andover's Kelly Johnson scored a goal during St. John's Prep's 3-1 win over Salem in the Division 1 North preliminary round. The Eagles visit Salem Sunday at 3 p.m.

Masse leads the way for St. John's Prep.

Mike Masse of North Andover ran 16:33 to lead St. John's Prep past Catholic Memorial 22-39 at Bradley Palmer Park in Hamilton. Masse's time was the fifth fastest at Bradley in St. John's history.

North Andover's Kelley Johnson helped the St. John's Prep boys soccer team blank Beverly 3-0. Cam Boudrow and Garrett Bulger also scored goals for the Eagles, and goalie Steve Pasinski recorded three saves in the shutout effort.

St. John's Prep ties defending champs

North Andover's Kelley Johnson, a senior tri-captain, scored his first goal of the season for St. John's Prep as they tied defending Div. 1 state champion St. John's of Shrewsbury. Haverhill product John Woelfe was also singled out by coach Dave Crowell as having a strong game.

Central barrage comes up short

DANVERS — For nearly all 44 minutes, Central Catholic, missing two of its best in the trenches, proudly slugged it out with St. John's Prep, the fourth-ranked team in Eastern Mass.
