Clean sweeps

Both the Greater Lawrence boys and girls cross country teams had 15-50 sweeps over Notre Dame. Omar Abrue led the boys (5-0) with a time of 18:12, and Suheiry Pereyra led the girls (4-2) with a time of 22:19.

Sachem frosh shine

 

Led by Peter Lopata, David Gangemi and Sam Stys, who went 2-3-4, Pentucket's boys took five of the top nine places at the Frank Kelley Invitational freshman race. On the varsity level, Nick Murphy was third overall as the Sachems took sixth in the 15-team field.

Metivier wins it

Methuen freshman Xavier Metivier ran 5:46 for a mile time this first week of practice. Yesterday he averaged 5:46 for 3.1 miles and his splendid effort was necessary. He was the No. 6 Ranger runner and broke the 28-28 tie with North Andover. Jacob St. Onge of Methuen ran a personal best and placed fifth among the five teams. The day's overall top runner was the Knights' Patrick Kitchen.

Good Cook-ing

Twins Sam and Allen Cook finished second and fourth respectively as Methuen downed Billerica 15-46. Sam ran a 3.1-mile time of 18:29, while Allen finished at 18:48. Jacob St. Onge finished first with a time of 18:28, while freshmen Xavier Mepizier had a good day, finishing seventh at 18:54.

Kitchen makes push

 

North Andover senior Patrick Kitchen pushed Lowell stars Chris Polanco and Anthony Rodriguez to the limit before settling for third with an excellent time of 14:42 on Lowell's 2.8-mile course. Lowell won, 19-42.

Lancers snap drought

 Lawrence's boys cross country team won its first MVC meet since Oct. 8, 2008, an 0-66 streak, clipping Dracut 24-34. Alex Barreras led the way, finishing second in 18:32 for 3.1 miles. Christian Lantigua was third and Eddie Castro came in fourth.
