Lonndonderry girls grab crown

 

The Division 1 meet did not go as Londonderry head coach Ed Burgess expected, but he wasn't complaining about the result.

Thanks to a late surge, the Lancers captured the crown for the first time since 1994, finishing with 89 points, five fewer than runner-up Bishop Guertin.

Newcomer Notre Dame of Tyngsboro dominated the field at the Commonwealth Conference girls meet, but Whittier was an impressive runner-up led by Angie Martinez in ninth and Corinne Bilodeau in 12th.

Andover girls 3rd

 

Sarah Rothman ran one of her best races of the year, finishing 11th overall, as the Andover girls finished a strong third in the MVC meet behind Lowell and Chelmsford. Rothman was just one place behind Warrior standout Leila Aruri, who was clocked in 19:48 on Chelmsford's 5K course.

Warriors roll in FH

 

 Junior forward Candace Waldie of North Andover and senior forward April Daugherty scored the game’s only goals, as the No. 7 Merrimack field hockey team wrapped up the 2012 regular season with a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference road victory over Adelphi yesterday afternoon. By virtue their eighth consecutive win, the Warriors improve to 15-2 overall to wrap up the regular season and finish league play with a 9-1 record. Adelphi, meanwhile, fell to 7-11 and 6-4 within the NE-10.

Speed at Winnekenni

In a tri-meet at Winnekenni Park in Haverhill, Chelmsford's Ali Wood ran the second fastest time run on the course, a winning time of 18:03. Haverhill runner-up Jackie Solimine (18:13) and third-place finisher Riley Gilmore (18:19) ran the third and fourth fastest time ever by a Hillie. Senior Katherine Becker, who finished 10th for the Hillies, had her best time on the course by a whopping 1:26.

Whittier's girls cross country team made amends for an earlier loss to Presentation of Mary by defeating the Panthers 20-41. Sydney Moran was first overall for PMA in 21:01 on the rain-soaked 5K course but Whittier had the superior depth led by Corinne Bilodeau in fourth and Kaitlin Wright in fifth.
