Timberlane, in only its fourth season, placed fifth at the Division 1 swimming state meet. Taylor Hogan earned two thirds, Elise Fredericks was runner-up in the 50 freestyle and Jordan Earley finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke.

Big Blue holds on

Phillips needed to win final relay to beat Hopkins and did it for 96-89 win. Team consisted of Methuen's Lauren Conte, Andover's Danielle Liu, North Andover's Katherine Sweetser and Kait Simpson. The three locals were in on a combined seven wins.

Senior Danielle Liu of Andover won four events and freshman Katherine Sweetser of North Andover was on three winning relays as Phillips beat Deerfield 106-80.

Raider girls grab relay win at states, Andover's 4-year streak ends

Maeve Awiszus had never won an individual event at the state swim meet during her first three years at Andover High so her goal throughout her senior season was to win just one.

She did one better yesterday, tying for first in the 500 freestyle (5:05.72) and winning the 100 backstroke (59:14).

Kim, depth give Andover North swim title

Andover scored just a single individual victory, but thanks to its depth across the events was still able to come out on top as a team, winning the North sectional swimming and diving championship with 345.5 points, edging No. 2 rival Chelmsford (336).

Kelly Lennon won the 200 IM (2:19.25) and 500 freestyle (5:21.95) as well as being part of Methuen's winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams in the Rangers' 97-87 victory over Lowell.

Co-champs

Andover girls swimming tied Chelmsford in a meet of two teams that entered undefeated in the MVC. With the tie, the two teams finished as MVC Large co-champions.

Andover's only loss this year came against Acton-Boxborough, which lost to Chelmsford. So this was a good tie for the Golden Warriors who entered as the underdog.

300th for Battistini

 

Rick Battistini won his 300th meet as the Haverhill swim coach yesterday, with an exciting 87-81 victory over Central Catholic. Cali Aramian won the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Hillies (8-2) and was on two winning relays, anchoring the 400 free relay with a superb final leg. Battistini got thrown into the pool by his team to celebrate his 300th.

Maggie Franklin won the 200 freestyle (2:08.8) and 500 free (5:42.1) as Haverhill beat Lowell 100-78.

Haverhill's last dual meet is next Friday against Central Catholic. With a win, Haverhill coach Rick Battistini would earn his 300th career victory.
