The Central Catholic boys tennis, sparked by No. 1 Thomas Alaimo, who won 6-0, 6-0, knocked off No. 3-seed Beverly 4-1. The Raiders will now challenge No. 2 Burlington on the road Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Absence hurts Sachems

 

With No. 1 player, junior standout Ryan Swanson out with the flu, Pentucket's boys tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to Austin Prep in the first round of the Division 3 North tournament. Both doubles teams —  Nick Giannino and B.G. Smith at No. 1 and Nates Bames and Pat Baga at No. 2 — won their matches for the Sachems (10-5).

Pelham boys tennis loses championship heartbreaker

Seven weeks ago, Pelham boys tennis was 1-2 and coming off a 9-0 shellacking to Bedford.

But the Pythons turned it around big-time and nearly won the Class I championship. Against that same Bedford squad which had humiliated them in mid-April, the Pythons put up a game fight before falling 5-4 in the title match.

Pelham makes history

Pelham boys tennis advanced to the finals for the first time in program history and to do it the Pythons slayed Hanover, which had won the last two Class I titles and 6 of the last 7.

Andrew Mack battled for a marathon 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-1) victory at No. 3 singles, the lone singles win for Andover High as the Golden Warriors defeated archrival Central Catholic 3-2. Nitin Mahesh and Jeff Birenbaum took No. 1 doubles and Christian Waters and Evan Birenbaum took No. 2 doubles for the Golden Warriors.

Andover 5, Methuen 0

Andover remained perfect in MVC Division 2 play, shutting out an improving Methuen squad. Cam McCarthy's steady play and strong work at the net at third singles highlighted the Golden Warrior victory. The Rangers still have a shot at a postseason berth with a win in their last match of the season.
