NECC baseball sets wins record

Jayden Voelker and Haverhill's Tyler McDonald combined on a 4-0 shutout in Game 1, and Todd Tringale threw a complete-game 11-0 shutout in Game 2 as the No. 3 nationally-ranked Northern Essex Community College baseball team broke the school's single-season wins record with 31 victories as the Knights swept CCRI. NECC has now won 23 straight games. 
Nick White and Richard Matos drove in runs for the Knights in the early game, while Kyle Hsu and Clay Campbell had key hits in the late game.

Andover tennis falls in North final

No. 1 Andover won both doubles matches, but was swept in singles and fell to No. 2 Acton-Boxboro 3-2 in the Division 1 North title game on Friday. Both teams entered the match undefeated.

Andover in finals

 

Jennie Wang won a three-set thriller at second singles, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, to help send Andover to the Division 1 North girls finals with a 3-2 win over Lincoln-Sudbury. Also winning for the Warriors were third singles Rachel Chen and the second doubles team of Sona Chaudhary and Sonika Chaudhary. The Warriors (14-0) will host unbeaten Acton-Boxboro at 2 p.m. Friday in the North finals.

Central bows out

 

Central Catholic's unbeaten wrestling team bowed out of the Division 2 North tournament Tuesday, forfeiting to North Andover because of a lack of wrestlers as several starters were unavailable. Central finished the season with an 11-1 record while North Andover advanced to wrestle Whittier in Thursdays finals.

The Kingston Night Owls beat the Tide, 4-1. Tyler MacDonald fanned six with no hits in five innings. Brian Berthiaume finished up with two innings of one-hit ball. Sebastian Mexico was 3 for 3 and drove in a pair. Nick Comei added two hits.
