Andover came within one event of sweeping the top two spots across the board, defeating Salem in gymnastics behind Brian Manning, 156.2-128.6. Manning won every event with a dominant 51.4 all-around score.

Brian Manning won the pommel horse (8.6) and rings (8.0), was second in the parallel bars, high bar and all-around and was third in the vault and floor exercise as Andover defeated three-time defending state champion Braintree 155.9-149.3.

Andover sophomore Brian Manning, who broke his ankle in December, recovered quickly enough to win the all-around with a35.9 at the State Coaches gymnastic meet. He excelled at the parallel bars.

Andover places third at state meet

Freshman Brian Manning placed third in the All-Around with a 39.2 and senior Chris Chu placed fifth (37.4) as Andover finished third in the state meet. Manning finished third in the vault (8.8) and the rings (6.5). Chu finished sixth in the parallel bars.

Chris Chu ran off four victories, topped by an 8.2 in the vault, and was all-around winner as Andover started its season with a 132.5-123.1 victory over Newton North. Freshman Brian Manning won the rings and placed in all other events for the Golden Warriors.
