Locals take a look at injuries in youth sports

On average, 18 million youths each year will suffer some sort of injury related to athletics. Of those, roughly 3.5 million will be sustained by kids under the age of 15 years old.

That was the topic of discussion at a lecture on kids and sports injuries held at Merrimack College. The was sponsored by Eagle Tribune Publishing's RallyNorth.net, as well as Merrimack College and the Northeast Rehab Health Network.

Hannah Cain, Gloucester: The freshman point guard had and added 10 points and three assists in an upset victory over Swampscott.

Olivia Lufkin, Gloucester: The sophomore drained four free throws in the final 12 seconds to give the Fishermen a dramatic 53-50 victory over Swampscott. She finished the game with 12 points.

Dani Ciccone, Manchester Essex: The center has caught fire recently for the Hornets, posting 14 points in a win over North Reading and 13 points in a loss to might to Masconomet.

Jill Lukegord, Gloucester: The senior scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Fishermen to a 48-43 win over Lynn Classical.

Tia Nelson, Rockport: The junior had 15 points in a 73-28 loss to Newburyport and she tallied 16 points in a 40-29 loss to North Reading.

Hannah Cain, Gloucester: The freshman was leading scorer for the Fishermen in a pair of victories. She scored 14 points in a 47-35 win over Beverly and netted 19 in a 47-42 win over Salem.
