The Danvers High School Falcon Marching Band kicked off a big year this fall with a new patriotic program members will perform in their debut at Universal Studios in December.

The band -- whose notoriety includes repeat performances in the prestigious Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. -- will travel to Florida this winter to perform in the Macy's Holiday Parade at Universal Studios, and in the New Year's Eve Parade at Disney's Magic Kingdom.

"They're very excited to go," said Ron Parsons, who is in his 21st year directing the Falcon Marching Band.

This year's band roster has 142 students, about 10 fewer than normal, according to Parsons. The band's show this year, called Americana, is in honor of U.S. veterans and soldiers. The patriotic medley of music includes portions of "Yankee Doodle," "Simple Gifts," "Stars and Stripes," "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," and "America the Beautiful."
