McDonald wins all-around to lead Central to MVC title

Bryce McDonald was the overall winner with a 35.75 to lead Central Catholic to the team title at the MVC Championship at Lakeview Junior High in Methuen on Wednesday.

McDonald placed second on the bars (9.0), third on the beam (8.9) and third on the floor (9.45).

Central (141.45) edged out second-place Andover (137.7).

North Andover came in sixth place (131.15 points) and Methuen placed eighth (120.3 points).

Alexis Buote, who placed second on the beam (9.15) was Central's only other placer beside McDonald.

"She (McDonald) was very energetic," Central Catholic coach Dunkan Gould said. "She had her personal best performance in today's competition."

Gould earned the MVC Coach of the Year, which he said he was very excited about.

"It's been a pleasure (working with the girls)," Gould said. "What a great group. They are fine young ladies as much as fine athletes. ... It's been an honor to coach them."

 North Andover's Nicole Stevens (35.75) came in second place in the all-around (35.75). She also won the beam (9.35).

Courtney Carver of Andover won the Senior Gymnast of the Year award. Carver won the floor (9.55) and placed third in the vault (9.3).

 Andover's second-place team finish came behind strong performances from Carver and Joe Aranov, who finished second in the vault (9.4) and Kaitlyn McDonald, who took third in the bars (9.0).
