HAWTHORNE — Carlos Duran picked up a fumble in the backfield and raced 41 yards for a score late in the first quarter.

The junior middle linebacker set the tone and Greater Lawrence bounced back from last week's disappointing loss with a 14-6 win over Essex Tech.

The hosts (2-3) scored in the second quarter but failed on the conversion. The Reggies (4-1) got an insurance TD in the fourth on a Kyle Vasconcellos run with 5:07 left.

Defensive tackle Jarred Garcia came up big with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Reggies are at Mystic Valley Friday 6 p.m.
