NORTH ANDOVER — Ryan Bessette was clear: North Andover wanted another shot at Boston Latin.

The Scarlet Knights only mustered three hits in last year's shocking 4-3 loss to Boston Latin in the first round of the Divison 2 tournament, but in Monday's quarterfinal matchup they belted out 18 in an 11-4 pounding of the Wolfpack.

"Ever since the end of last season we've been pretty set on beating Boston Latin," said Bessette. "We were hoping we were going to see them again and we lucked out."

"They took it to us last year," said North Andover head coach Todd Dulin. "They just came in here and straight up beat us. But our guys used that to come back better and stronger."

The Knights got to Boston Latin starter Jack Downey for one run in the second and four in the third. Downey was pitching on three days rest after he beat Masconomet 4-2 in the first round. Reliever Aidan O'Reilly did not fair much better, as the Knights tagged him for three runs in both the fourth and fifth inning.

Bessette led the way for the Knights, going 3 for 4 with a team-high four RBI's. Trevor Ham was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI's, and Brendan Parisotto was 2 for 4 with two runners batted in.

"I was just looking to hit strikes and get deep into counts," said Bessette. "I just wanted to see a lot of pitches, and eventually they would miss a spot or two and I'd be able to take advantage."

North Andover starter William Berberich went three-plus innings, striking out three. He allowed an unearned run in the first, but cruised through the second and third. He walked the first three batters in the fourth, however, which forced Dulin to bring in reliever Jeremy Saraceno who let up a two-run single.

Saraceno went three strong innings of relief, allowing only one run while striking out three. Chris Keane moved from second base to the mound to finish the seventh, but at that point the game was over. The Knights offense was clicking too well.

No Weaknesses

How good was the North Andover offense on Monday? All ten players who got an at-bat for North Andover got a hit. Seven Knights got multi-hit games, and two had three-hit games.

North Andover doubled its offensive output from last year's loss in just the third inning alone when they strung together six straight singles.

"I mean I wouldn't even say hitting is our strength," said a smiling Bessette. "We just don't have any weaknesses."

Up-Coming Showdown

No one knows yet when or where the semi-final matchups will take place, but the No. 5 Knights will play top-seeded Danvers, who defeated Belmont 4-1 Monday. The Falcons are 20-2 overall.

"I think [Roger Day] is one of the best coaches in the state," said Dulin. "I've seen them play a bunch of times, and they do everything well. So we're going to have to show up at our best."
