ROXBURY — Andover junior Owen Mosher upset heavily-favored Brookline senior Andrew Chabon to capture the Division 1 state 55-meter hurdles title Saturday.

Chabon beat Mosher in qualifying, 7.77-7.91, but Mosher came through in the finals in 7.87 while Chabon (8.04) struggled. It was another top day for the Andover hurdlers as Justin Mantrana took sixth and Graham Scott seventh.

The hurdlers were keys as Andover placed seventh overall.

Junior Devin Connell ran a 2:30.57 for third in the 1,000 meters, breaking an Andover record which dated back to 1965, according to coach Peter Comeau. The old mark was 2:31.94 by Rob Heroux. Connell also ran on the fifth-place 4x800 team.

Haverhill finished 17th. North Andover transfer Jukka Morales was the runner-up in the 55 meters in 6.66 and Tim Corliss placed eighth in the mile in 4:28.28.

Lawrence and Methuen competed but didn't score.
