North Andover had its eyes on a state title, but a scary fall knocked the Scarlet Knights off their game.
Freshman Sydney Schwalm took a "horrific fall," which shook up her teammates at Tuesday's state championships at Berkshire East.

Coach Jerry Marchegiani said, "Sydney had a bad crash. It just destroyed our girls. When you see a teammate carted off hill and the meet for 20 minutes on hold to get medical attention.
"They said, 'We just wanted to finish.'

"They are real close and she's your teammate. It was a horrific fall and she was carted off in a toboggan."

Thankfully, Schwalm was doing much better.

At about 7:30 p.m. last night, Marchegiani said, "She just gave me a call. There were no broken bones but extensive swelling."

Marchegiani said it is likely a torn ACL.

The Knights are a tough bunch and none are tougher than Maria Cavallaro. The senior star kept her composure to place fourth in the slalom and sixth in the giant slalom.
