Balanced Greater Lawrence wins big

WEST ANDOVER | There's a lot more to Greater Lawrence Tech football than Nate Adames.

True, he is posting monster numbers in the early going and went over the 1,000-yard mark yesterday in just five games, but Northeast targeted Adames effectively. The senior, running fluidly after twisting his knee last week, was stopped three times for negative yardage and only had one carry for over 10 yards.

Reggies counting on Adames

After a couple days of watching, Nate Adames was expected to return to practice this week for 4-0 Greater Lawrence Tech, which tackles Northeast Saturday.

This week vs. winless Northeast, the Reggies could probably afford to rest Adames, who is arguably the most prolific player in Eastern Mass. with 977 rushing yards and 13 TDs. By the way, keep an eye on a couple of fast-rising young linebackers, sophomores Angel Rivera on the inside and Mike Scott on the outside.

Adames hurt in Reggies' victory

ANDOVER | Possibly a high price to pay for an easy victory.

Dominating an outmatched and winless Minuteman squad on route to an eventual 40-8 victory, Greater Lawrence Tech' s standout running back Nate Adames suffered a knee injury late in the first half that required him to be carried off the field. He stayed for the remainder of the contest, using crutches with ice on his left knee.

Reggies survive slugfest, defeat Whittier

ANDOVER | The torch was passed in Commonwealth Conference football yesterday, but it was far from an easy transfer. In a battle royal before around 300 sun-soaked fans at Gleason Field, a near school-record rushing effort from Nate Adames and an athletic late TD run from quarterback Jonathan Delossantos lifted Greater Lawrence to a satisfying 29-20 victory over defending champ Whittier.

All eyes on ... Georgetown at Greater Lawrence

Tomorrow morning's Georgetown at Greater Lawrence battle will be a flashback to the days when these two dominated their divisions of the Commonwealth Conference.

Georgetown remains tiny Georgetown, with only 36 players dressed, but as Reggies coach Tony Sarkis emphasized, "they are very sound as usual and have played together for four or five years."

Adames, Reggies looking for return to proud past

Having already flattened one Lawrence defender with a wicked straight arm, Whittier's Adames looks for somebody else to run over in a September football game.3 Photos

WEST ANDOVER | Back in the fall of 2004, Nate Adames and his freshman classmates were about the only thing Greater Lawrence Tech boys athletic boosters could rally around.

The varsity team had plummeted deep into the abyss, finishing at 0-10 and the usually strong boys hoop and baseball teams were treading water.
