Ipswich rallied to get two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Peter Cleary came in for the save and got a groundout to third to end the game and help Pentucket survive, 4-3.

Peter Clohisy had himself a day for Pentucket track. He had four first-place finishes, taking gold in the long jump (19-4), 400 hurdles (59.14), 100 hurdles (16.13) and the triple jump (39-11). The triple jump was a personal best. Colin Costa also set a personal best in the 2-mile (10:45.76), shatting his previous best by 27 seconds.

AMESBURY – Chances are the Amesbury offense will be more than capable of hurting opposing pitchers all on its own.

North Andover defeated Ipswich to open its season with a victory. Sophomore Kelcey Dion scored four goals, while junior Ali Ferullo and sophomore Lexi Swartz chipped in three apiece. Senior Bella Morton and freshman Priscilla Murray split time in goal, making four saves each.

The Pentucket girls basketball team thought they'd go the whole season without seeing Emily Riley on the court after she tore her ACL early last summer. But the senior has rehabbed hard, and last night scored a season-high 8 points in her third game back to help the Sachems to a 69-30 win over Ipswich. Better yet, she did it on Senior Night.

Anthony Couture scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half to pace Whittier Tech to a come-from-behind 47-42 victory over Ipswich. Hector Gomez chipped in with 10 points in the second half as the Wildcats (7-8) rallied rom a 23-13 deficit.

Amesbury's Alli Napoli scored a season-high 17 points as the Indians routed Ipswich 65-30 on Friday. Flannery O'Connor scored 15 points and freshman Avery Hallinan added 12 as Amesbury improved to 5-1 on the season.

Amesbury boys basketball picked up its first win of the season, beating Ipswich 56-53. Freshman Cam Keliher led the way with 15 points, including four 3-pointers, and Jaden Keliher and Noah Lynch each had 11 points.

The Newburyport boys basketball team rode a surge in the second and third quarters past Ipswich for a 58-45 win. Casey McLaren led the way with 24 points, bringing his career total to 982. Parker McLaren scored 16 points and George Coryell added eight points.

The Triton girls swimming and diving team saw several outstanding performances in Monday's 61-33 win over Ipswich, as the Vikings compiled six state qualifying times and five more sectional qualifiers. University of Minnesota commit Maggie Summit led the way, winning both the 100 and 200 freestyles, and Liz Sutton also won two individual events, taking the 500 free and 100 breaststroke.
