Triton boys dominate

The Triton boys swimming and diving team cruised to a big win over Ipswich in Monday's season-opener, winning 61-23. Grayson Fountain and Josh Thibeau each won four events, with both winning two individual events each while also leading the 200 medley and 200 free relays to first place finishes. Owen Brosch and Alex Kelleher also won individual events and took part in multiple winning relays as well.

Triton punches ticket

Triton golf has qualified for the state tournament for the 14th straight season, beating Ipswich 114-65 to punch the team's ticket once again. Cael Kohan led the way with 26 points, Matt Duncan added 24 and Nick Ritchie had 20 as the Vikings improved to 9-2 on the year.

Pentucket's Ryan Gallagher had a huge game, scoring two goals and tallying three assists as the Sachems beat Ipswich 7-1. Seamus O'Keefe, Chris Husak, Jake Messier, Jake Correnti and Luke Dickson also scored in the win.

Annabelle's big day

Freshman forward Annabelle Sylvanowicz played a major role in Pentucket girls soccer's comeback over Ipswich, drawing a foul in the box that led to Jacey Jennings' game-tying goal and then scoring the winner herself to give the Sachems a 2-1 win. Pentucket has now won three games in a row and is 3-2-1 on the year.

Amesbury stays alive

The Amesbury baseball team kept its state tournament dream alive with an 8-6 win over Ipswich. The Indians fell behiind 6-3 after allowing six runs in the top of the fifth, but then answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Derek Doherty went 3 for 4 with two runs out of the leadoff spot,  Derek Beaupre also had two hits and two RBIs, and Graham Gannett took a no hitter into the fifth before Thomas Flanagan picked up his first win in relief. Amesbury is now 6-10 and will face Whittier Tech on Wednesday.

Kyle Eddy blasted a three-run homer and Josh O'Brien followed in the same inning with a solo homer to highlight Whittier's 8-1 win over Ipswich and make a winner of Austin DeCosta. The Wildcats improved to 12-2.

The Triton softball team edged out Ipswich 6-5 to improve to 12-1 on the season. Grace McGonagle went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Emily Karvielis drove in three runs, Colleen McCarthy made a diving catch at third and Katherine Quigley struck out eight to earn the win.

Port bounces back

Newburyport girls tennis suffered its first loss of the year to state power Marblehead on Thursday night, dropping a close 3-2 decision, but bounced back in a big way to beat Ipswich 5-0 on Friday. Senior Grace Ellsworth picked up her first varsity win, teaming with Anna Hickman at second doubles to win 6-1, 6-1, and Emma Filipancic moved up to third singles to win 6-3, 6-2.
