Super Bowl champ Ipswich starting from scratch

IPSWICH | Every Cape Ann League team on the Ipswich High football schedule will be paying close attention to the Tigers this season.

It's human nature. Ipswich lost virtually everyone from an 11-2 team that won the Division 3A Super Bowl last season; 43 of the 55 players this year are either freshmen or sophomores.

Tigers have difficult path to follow

Every year is different. Each team starts from square one at the beginning of a new season, but it's always difficult to forget past glory.

In 2006, the Ipswich field hockey team completed the regular season undefeated (14-0-5) and won its second straight Cape Ann League Small title in the process. The Tigers also won two games in the Division 2 tournament before falling to powerful Watertown, 3-0, in the semifinals.

HAMILTON | It's impossible to overstate how much it means to a team to be on the verge of winning a championship, and then to have potential disaster lurking around the corner.

Ipswich High was in that precarious position yesterday against a remarkably resilient and fired-up Hamilton-Wenham team. The Tigers were five seconds away from a victory that would have propelled them to the postseason. They were also five seconds away from an upset loss that would've soured their entire season.
