Mascenic may be improved over previous years but Pinkerton had an answer for everything thrown at it in a 25-23, 25-21, 25-15 victory. Steve Curry's blocking skills and 18 service points were crucial as was Danny Goodwin's strong net play for the Astros, now 7-2.

Second-half Sanborn savior

Mascenic's defensive shell kept Sanborn's boys soccer team off the scoreboard until midway through the second half, but that's when Logen Johnson broke loose.

A flick header by Johnson off Eric Sands' accurate feed drew the Indians even, 1-1, and changed the game's momentum. Five minutes later, Johnson grabbed the rebound of Rob Palumbo's low blast and poked it in the net for the game-winner. Insurance came after Mascenic's comeback was denied by a goal post with Johnson getting his natural hat trick on an 18-yard score.

Sanborn wins two straight

Sanborn Regional made it two straight wins for the first time since the 2002-03 season. And the Indians did it in style. Fresh off a win over Hillsboro, Sanborn made previously unbeaten Mascenic its second victim, 60-50, behind a huge night from Robby Ficker.
