Titles for Brown, Gangi

 

 CJ Brown won his second tournament in two weeks in impressive fashion and Joe Gangi followed his lead as Methuen finished fourth at the Wakefield Tournament.

Brown (170) and Gangi (138) won all their matches with first period pins with Gangi getting a 35-second fall in the finals. Also for the Rangers, Michael Crowe was the runner-up at 113 while freshmen Jack Stoddard (106) and surprising Josiah Concepcion took thirds.

Rangers already ahead

The Georgetown boys soccer team was a perfect 4-0, but that all changed after Saturday's 3-3 tie against Methuen. The Rangers got two goals from Celeb Agbo, who now has six on the young season. With the tie, the Rangers (1-2-2) already have more points than they did all of last season.

100 for Greene

Brenna Greene was the story in Methuen's 11-8 comeback win over Georgetown in girls lacrosse, as the senior scored twice to reach 100 goals for her career. The Rangers (9-9) trailed 6-2 at the half before making the comeback that qualified them for the state tournament.

A Chris Husak sacrifice fly and a Trevor Blanchard RBI-single put Pentucket up by two in the top of the ninth. Then in the bottom half, Chase Dwight closed the door with a 1-2-3 inning to lift the Sachems past Georgetown, 7-5.

Bryant's big game

Connor Bryant fired in five goals and dished out four assists to lead Methuen boys lacrosse to a 17-12 win over Georgetown. Matt Horan had a seven-point outing with three goals and four helpers, while Ethan Schena made 14 saves in the cage.

Royals edge Hillies

Georgetown took down Haverhill in both teams' season opener, taking a three-goal lead into halftime and edging the Hillies, 11-10, in the second half to pull away with a four-goal victory. Haverhill senior Shayla Doherty tallied a game-high of eight goals, followed by fellow Hillies senior Emma Laviolette, who chipped in three. Haverhill freshman goalie Fiona Dean made 12 saves.

Pentucket freshman Tyler Knox continued to dominate Saturday in the Division 3 North sectional, rolling to the 106-pound title with pins in 43, 41 and 36 seconds to raise his record to 38-0 on the year.
