Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover girls hockey won its first ever game, downing Wayland 4-1. Emily Galligan scored the first goal in program history and Kim Carroll added two goals and two assists for H-P-NA.

Cinderella season

An improbable run to the Division 2 state semifinals ended as the first-year Tewksbury-Methuen team fell to top-seeded Duxbury 8-0. Taylor Lirakis had a whopping 51 saves and freshman defenseman Kathleen LeFebre starred against the two-time defending state champion Green Dragons.

The first-year Tewksbury-Methuen girls hockey program continues to surprise. Yesterday in the first round of the Division 2 tourney 20th-seeded T-M manhandled Canton 7-3. Methuen High's Amanda Conway had three more goals to give her 51 and Rangers Kelly Blackwell and Kathleen LeFebre also tallied.

The Andover girls hockey team scored twice in the second period, on goals by Veronica Alois and Mikayla Panneton and then held on for a 2-1 Division 1 North victory over Winthrop. Goalie Mackenzie Dutton had 28 saves.

Tourney winner

 

The Methuen-Tewksbury girls hockey team keeps reaching milestones in its first year. After making the tournament, Methuen won its first postseason game yesterday, blasting Norwell 10-3. Amanda Conway continued her scoring spree with four goals while seventh grader Kelly Golini had three goals and two assists. Methuen plays again tomorrow at Canton at 4:30.

Makes tourney

 

In its first season, the Methuen/Tewksbury girls hockey team qualified for the tournament, defeating Concord-Carlisle 5-1 to end the regular season with an 8-7-3 record. Amanda Conway had another hat trick to end the regular season with 44 goals and also added an assist to finish with 50 points. Kelly Golini added two goals and goalie Taylor Lirakis added an assist to her 29 saves.

St. Paul's senior Ethan Rheault of Salem, N.H., had an outstanding tournament at the Independent School League meet Sunday. Not only did he remain undefeated by coasting to the title at 152 pounds  but he was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
