Christian Taveras (14 kills, 3 blocks) and Andy Henriquez (28 assists, 3 blocks) led the way as fourth-seeded Lawrence won 3-0 over 13th seeded Brighton in the first round of the  Division 1 North volleyball tournament.

Dan Sullivan recorded 12 kills, eight digs and one ace to lead No. 8 seed Haverhill volleyball 3-0 over No. 9 seed St. John's in the first round of the Division 1 North tourney. 

Central Catholic's volleyball team had a tough season, but the Raiders (4-12) finished with a 3-1 victory over Billerica. Nick Cambio led the way with 19 kills and four blocks.

Haverhill's Connor Peterson spread the ball around and racked up 54 assists as the Hillies beat Andover 3-1 in boys volleyball. Dan Sullivan benefited the most from Peterson's play, tallying 23 kills in the game. Casey Fitzpatrick and Chris Tompkins also had 17 kills apiece. 

Led by Tim Galloway-Burke, Methuen's volleyball team outlasted Central Catholic in five games to keep its tournament hopes alive. Galloway-Burke led the Rangers (9-9) with 22 kills, 10 blocks and 8 service points. Nick Cambio had 28 kills for the Raiders.

Haverhill's volleyball team avenged an early-season loss to Timberlane with a 3-0 sweep and, in so doing, qualified for the tournament. Connor Peterson had 38 assists and 10 digs for the Hillies (9-6) and Chris Tompkins had 12 kills.  

Junior Phil Balanoff led Timberlane in assists (30), service points and digs as the Owls blanked Souhegan. Mike Murphy led Timberlane (5-3) in kills and blocks.

Tucker Lippold had 11 assists, giving him more than 1,000 for his career, and also had five aces and 10 service points as Windham blanked Bishop Guertin in volleyball.

Justin Iwen notched 15 blocks and added eight kills to lead Methuen's 22-25, 34-32, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10 comeback win over Billerica.

The only team ever to beat Salem in its nine-year history nearly did it again. But the nine-time defending state champs survived Timberlane in a wild match 25-20, 27-29, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12. Zach Demers' serving in the fifth game and the all-around play of Pat Frydryck (27 kills) saved Salem. Cam Todd had 25 kills for the Owls.
