The only team ever to beat Salem in its nine-year history nearly did it again. But the nine-time defending state champs survived Timberlane in a wild match 25-20, 27-29, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12. Zach Demers' serving in the fifth game and the all-around play of Pat Frydryck (27 kills) saved Salem. Cam Todd had 25 kills for the Owls.

Chris Tompkins, who missed the first five games of the season, got his first start of the season and made it count with 18 kills and four blocks to lead Haverhill's volleyball team (5-2) to a sweep of Central Catholic. Connor Peterson had 38 assists for the Hillies.

Jake Slepian's four blocks, 18 assists and two aces led Salem volleyball 3-1 over Windham in a rematch of last year's state title game, which Salem also won 3-1. 

Tucker Lippold had 20 assists while adding eight kills and three blocks as Windham's volleyball team won its second straight, 2-0 over Londonderry.

Julio Vincent tallied 14 digs and Christian Taveras had seven kills as Lawrence dealt Haverhill its first loss of the season, 25-19, 25-8, 25-15.

Dan Sullivan led Haverhill in kills (16), blocks (6) and digs (9) as the Haverhill volleyball team remained unbeaten, edging Lowell 3-2.

Freshman Jeremy DeRoche had 10 kills as Haverhill's volleyball team stayed unbeaten with a sweep of Billerica. Connor Peterson led in blocks with five and assists with 33. 

Julio Vicente had a remarkable 27 service points as Lawrence swept Andover for its second straight win. Christian Taveras had seven kills and four blocks for the Lancers (2-1).

Andy Henriquez led Lawrence's volleyball team both with his play at the net (16 kills) and passing (30 assists) as the Lancers outlasted Milford 3-2, winning the clincher 15-13.

Haverhill's volleyball team opened with an easy sweep of Somerville, only surrendering 19 points in three games. Dan Sullivan had nine kills while Connor Peterson had 4 blocks, 27 assists and 7 digs.
