Phillip Becker and Tyler Denning took an emotional 9-7 tiebreaker at first doubles for the deciding point in Salem's 5-4 win over Manchester Central. Becker also win at first singles for the Blue Devils.

Pentucket's boys tennis team defeated Masconomet for the first time in Christian Langlois' three-year coaching regime, winning a trio of three-set marathons en route to a 4-1 victory. Ryan Swanson, Taylor Beaton, and the doubles pairing of Nate Eames and Dan Morin all lost their first sets for the Sachems (2-2) but stormed back to win their matches.

Mike Soltys' exciting 9-7 victory at third singles gave Pinkerton a sweep of all six singles matches, highlighting an 8-1 triumph over Nashua South.

Andover had powerhouse Concord-Carlisle on the ropes but the two-time defending Division 1 state champs extended their lengthy regular season win streak with a 3-2 win. The Patriots' last regular-season loss came in 2004.

Andover won its three straight match without losing a set in a 5-0 romp over Chelmsford. Austin Bendetson was dominant at third singles, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Central Catholic fell 5-0 to Winchester in the Division 2 North quarterfinals. The Raiders conclude the season at 10-7.

Nitin Mahesh and Shane Huggins won at first doubles, but the Andover boys tennis team fell to Acton-Boxboro 4-1 in the Division 1 North semifinals. Jeff Birnenbaum played well, but dropped a three-setter and Eric Heath and Bjorn Merinder battled but fell in straight sets.

That was the reaction of Pinkerton head coach John Pelkey after the 12-5 Astros lost, 6-3, to undefeated Exeter yesterday in the Class  L finals for boys tennis.

Andover cruised to a 3-2 victory over Boston Latin Academy in yesterday's Division 1 quarterfinals. Bjorn Merinder led the way out of the first singles spot as he's been doing all year with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, and the second doubles team of Andrew Mack and Randy Sartor won an unblemished match 6-0, 6-0.

Pinkerton boys tennis easily dispatched Concord 6-3 in the Class L semifinals. Mark Mangini and Sam Eaton locked down the first and second singles spots with a pair of 8-5 victories then teamed to take first doubles,  8-6. Dan Kish and Mike Soltys were also double winners for the Astros, which faces Exeter in the finals tomorrow.
