Poretta at Reebok

Pentucket standout Alanna Poretta will be competing Feb. 6 at the invitation-only Junior Mile at the Reebok Indoor Games at the Reggie Lewis Center.The eight-runner field includes current No. 1-ranked miler Emily Lipari from New York (best time of 4:47.44), 2009 World Youth finalist Cory Ann McGee from Mississippi and Virginia's Stevens twins, Joanna and Kathleen, who currently share the top two spots in the 1,000, 1,600 and 3,200. Poretta's best mile time last year was 4:57.83.

Shea doubles up

Caitlyn Shea had a pair of victories including a personal best in the 500 freestyle (5:25.56) as part of Salem's meet against Nashua North, Milford and Pelham. Shea also won the 200 IM while Jackie Mayo triumphed in the 200 freestyle and placed third in the 100 freestyle. Patricia Caiati placed in a pair of events for the Blue Devils (third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 IM).

Blue Hills 97, Greater Lawrence 72

Xavier Serrano and Eric Vorce each had two individual victories but Blue Hills' depth prevailed in a 97-72 victory over Greater Lawrence Tech. Senior captain Rose Scott placed fourth in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke for the Reggies.

B.C. High 104, Andover 82

Despite a 104-82 defeat to B.C. High, Andover's Paul Hunter had his usual impressive performance with a pair of individual victories and a strong contribution to the 200 medley relay won by the Golden Warriors. Dan Iannalfo was a quality scorer for Andover (6-3) with third-place finishes in the backstroke and butterfly.

Lancers too deep

Londonderry had too many solid athletes in its swimming sweep of Salem and Campbell. John McCarthy was a double winner for the Lancers, prevailing in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Salem's girls were paced by Caitlyn Shea (200 free and 100 back) and Jackie Mayo (200 IM and 100 free).

Bryan Walcker is utilizing some tough competition to sharpen his own performances, highlighted by a strong anchor leg in the meet-clinching 400 freestyle relay as North Andover felled previously unbeaten Lynnfield, 94-76. Walcker also won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke for the Scarlet Knights (6-0).

Phillips impressive in opener

Jun Oh, Ben Morris and Curtis Hon each won two individual events to lead the Phillips swimmers to a 118-64 win over Choate in the opening meet of the season for the Big Blue. Oh took first place in the 200 Freestyle (1:45.71) and the 500 Freestyle (4:46.63) while Morris earned the top spot in the 200 IM (2:03.47) and the 100 Butterfly (54.38). Hon won the 100 freestyle (48.75) and the 50 freestyle (22.19).
