NORTH ANDOVER — Richard Vazquez made two clutch free throws with 22.4 seconds left to give Whittier its first lead of the game and the Wildcats held on to beat Salem 53-48. Mitchel Rudis (game-high 19 points) and Andres Hernandez (14 points) each added two late free throws to clinch the win in the consolation game of the Commonwealth Christmas Classic. Tim Dodier had 16 points and Michael Felix 13 for Salem, which led by 5 with 1:15 left in the Wil Hixon Division contest.
