St. John's Prep Boys Basketball Preview

Coach: Dan Letarte (12th season)

Key returnees: Ryan O'Connell, 6-3, Sr., G; Andrew Knight, 6-3, Sr., G; Mike Hall, 7-0, Jr., C; Nick Checovich, 6-2, Sr., G; Sam Baker, 6-4, Jr., F; Pat Dempsey, 6-4, Sr., F; Brendon Felder Felder, 5-10, So., G.

Strengths: Any team would like to build around O'Connell, who averaged 28 points to lead Eastern Mass. in scoring last season. O'Connell already has a scholarship offer from Bentley. Hall is an intriguing 7-footer, a raw talent who is still developing and being eyed by Division 1 colleges. Overall, the Eagles have imposing size to go with Ryan's outside marksmanship.

Concerns: Despite the Prep's size, there are still a lot of young players who have not had an opportunity to play together and they need to grow up in a hurry to play the Eagles tough schedule.

Coach's outlook: "These guys came into the preseason in outstanding shape. I think they want to excel every minute of practice. Team chemistry | you either have it or you don't and this team has it. Our goals are to win the Catholic Conference and make the state tourney."
