METHUEN — Playing without Eagle-Tribune All-Star Jake Coleman, who developed an illness over the holiday, Londonderry was able to hold off Salem for a 64-61 win in the other consolation game.

Salem pulled ahead early to take a 17-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Lancers rebounded by outscoring the Blue Devils 19-8 in the second to take a 33-25 lead at halftime. Salem closed the gap in the third quarter, but the Lancers were able to keep the Blue Devils at bay over the final minutes for the big win.

In Coleman’s absence, the Lancers got a boost from sophomore Ethan Garofalo, who knocked down four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 17 points. Dakota Bertrand added 16 points and Cole Britting had 15 to help lead the Lancers. Matt McLaughlin led Salem with 21 points, and Griffin Curtis added 18.

According to coach Nate Stanton, Coleman fell ill on Christmas and is battling an infection of some kind. He will be going in for further testing in the coming days and the hope is that he will get better and be able to return to the court soon.

LAWRENCE SHREDS WINDHAM

Following its close loss to Andover in the first round of the Commonwealth Motors Christmas Classic, Lawrence took out its frustrations on No. 8 seed Windham, torching the Jaguars for a 77-50 win.

Lawrence only led by one at the end of the first quarter, but then outscored Windham 23-9 in the second to take a 38-25 lead at halftime. The Lancers kept their foot on the gas from there, pulling ahead 62-42 after three before finishing the game strong.

Juan Felix Rodriguez led the way with 25 points, knocking down three 3-pointers, and Ricardo Tejada added 21 points for the Lancers. Windham was led by Ricky Logue with 13 points.

Lawrence and Londonderry will face off in the Christmas Tourney’s 5th Place Game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., and Salem and Windham will play for 7th Place right before that at 2:45 p.m. Both games will be played at Methuen High.
