DURHAM — Sanborn senior Megan Sheehan placed fourth in the discus (125-5) and Pelham senior Mia Herrling took fifth in the high jump (5-5) at the 41st annual New England Championships Saturday at UNH's Reggie Atkins Track.
The jump equalled Herrling's career best while Sheehan was just off her best of 128-9, which is fourth all-time in the area.
The other two area placers (top 8 place) were Sanborn freshman Kristina Allard (8th, 400, 58.38) and Pentucket senior Saige Tudisco (7th, 17-9.5, long jump).
Tudisco, a UNH recruit, has continued to tear it up this spring but had a rare off day, also running a 16.15 in the high hurdles. Of course, she's had a brutal schedule with the MIAA choosing to have its grueling North Sectional heptathlon the same week as New Englands. Tudisco won that, breaking her own area record with 4,309 points. That wrapped up on Thursday.
AREA PLACERS (top 8 place):
DISCUS: 4. Megan Sheehan (Sanb) 125-5; LONG JUMP: 7. Saige Tudisco (Pent) 17-9.5; HIGH JUMP: 5. Mia Herrling (Pelham) 5-5; 400 METERS: 8. Kristina Allard (Sanborn) 58.38
