Opener: Friday, at Salem
Odds and ends: Timberlane returns the backfield duo of junior James Dionne and sophomore Derek Furey. ... Tackle Bryan Nicoll and the two Fureys, Derek and Mike, will be the lone two-way players for the Owls as coach Mike Pariseau sticks to his two-platoon strategy. ... Eagle-Tribune honorable mention wrestling All-Star Brian Nicoll heads a contingent of wrestlers entrenched in the football program. The others include Max Zdrada, Alex Scali, Matt Tardif, Eric Petrillo, Matt Wright and promising frosh Ben Tammany. ... The roster is chock-full of multiple sport stars. Speedy Pat Hamilton hit .343 for the baseball team. Drew Smith tossed in a team-high 15.6 points a game for the hoop team.
Coach Mike Pariseau (15th year, 76-65): "We've got a long way to come defensively, but I like how the young kids are coming along. We're looking to replace eight starters on the defense, so how quickly we progress will tell how our season goes. We've got a lot of two- and three-sport athletes, so I think that will help us. James Dionne and Derek Furey will again share the workload in the backfield. Right now, it looks like Dean Bidgood will be our starting quarterback, but Eric Hatton is doing a great job, pushing him."
