Hamilton-Wenham football coach Andrew Morency didn't have a good feeling heading into yesterday's game against Lynnfield, knowing Generals' standouts Jake Cotter and Dave Littlefield would be on the sideline.
Morency's premonition turned out to be true as the Pioneers stunned Hamilton-Wenham, 28-20.
The Generals fell behind early and never recovered. Lynnfield scored 20 first quarter points and added a score in the fourth quarter to account for the final deficit.
"Lynnfield played a great game," Morency said. "They did some things we didn't expect. We were nervous about this game going in without Jake and Dave, but they outplayed us. My hat's off to them."
Sophomore quarterback Andy Duval threw a pair of touchdown passes to Derek Keith (45 yards) and Joe Hoyle (2 yards) to lead Hamilton-Wenham in its comeback attempt. Duval finished with 130 yards passing. Jake Nichols added a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Generals, who slipped to 4-4.
Tom Drinkwater also played well for Hamilton-Wenham.
