Brooks blowout

The top-ranked Brooks boys basketball team made a major statement against Rivers, the No. 2 team in the ISL standings, winning in a 72-49 blowout. Salem's George Smith tied his season with 24 points for Brooks (18-2), which led Rivers (17-4) by 19 at the half.

Brooks falls short to Rivers

WESTON — Brooks led 3-0 heading into the fourth quarter, but could not hold on and fell to Rivers 6-3 on Saturday.

Kicker Brian Barker-Morrill gave the Green and White the lead when he booted a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter.

QB Michael Wolfendale led Brooks with 98 passing yards. He connected with Darryl Yepdo three times for 54 yards.

The Phillips girls soccer team has a talented senior class, but none of them had ever been on a team that beat Rivers. But that changed on Saturday, as Big Blue got two goals from Andover's Maddy Silveira to earn a 4-0 win.

Brooks falls in title game

Despite 32 saves for Caroline Kukas, top-seeded Brooks fell to No. 2 Rivers 3-2 in the NEPSAC Division 2 girls hockey championship game. 
 
Carly Stefanini scored the goal for Brooks, which ended the season 21-3-2.
 
"This was a tough one to lose, but the girls played so well," said Brooks coach Lori Charpentier. "The girls had an incredible season, and it was tremendous to coach them."

Feel-good win

The seniors on the Brooks boys hockey team, like Andover's Michael Hughes, never had the feeling of beating Rivers. That changed last night, however, with a feel-good 2-0 win the seniors desperately wanted. Hughes scored a goal, and Spencer Pierce stood on his head and made 52 saves.

The Brooks boys basketball team beat Rivers, 65-55, in a rematch of last year's New England Prep Class B championship — a game Brooks won 65-40. Junior forward Myles Foster scored a season-high 13 points and added 10 rebounds in the win.

Locals fuel comeback

Freshman Brooke Rogers of North Andover scored twice as Brooks girls hockey netted all three of its goals in the third period to complete a 3-2 comeback win over Rivers. North Andover's Caroline Kukas had 26 saves for Brooks (7-0-1).
