Grace Efosa (28 points) and Aliyah Talley (21 points) each hit five 3s to lift Whittier to a 68-58 win over a Stoneham team that beat the Wildcats by one earlier in the season. Rachel McGrath and Natalie Cintron were a force on the boards with 22 combined rebounds.

Senior captain Kyra Donahue won the 50 and 100 freestyle (59.27) and anchored two winning relays as Methuen/Tewksbury whipped Stoneham 97-68 to improve to 6-3 on the year. Another senior, Ava Facella, was also on two winning relays and placed first in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke.  

Claudia Crowe continued her scoring ways for Methuen in a 3-0 win over Stoneham, scoring two goals and assisting on the other goal as the Rangers improved to 8-4-2.

North Reading led by a goal late in the third period, but Stoneham scored to send the game to overtime, then added the winner in the second OT to beat the Hornets 2-1 in the Division 2 North semifinals.

After sitting out the majority of the game with back trouble, North Andover’s Leah Chittick felt something special as she knocked down the first bucket of the fourth quarter.

“Abbie (Karalis) swung me a great pass and I hit a 3-pointer,” said Chittick. “After that basket, I could tell that there was something there. It felt really good.”

Ryan Kuchar shut the door after the third inning and Pentucket's baseball team rallied for a 3-2 victory in eight innings over Stoneham in the Division 3 North prelims. The Sachems got the winning run when Jon Sirois (2 for 3) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Kuchar finished with a four-hitter, striking out nine, and not allowing a hit pver the last five innings.

WEST ANDOVER — As he walked to the locker room following the game, Greater Lawrence basketball coach Dan Habib stopped to embrace a pair of players in tears, consoling one another.

“I told them that they can be sad right now,” said Habib. “It will hurt, it is going to be tough. But I told them that when they leave the locker room I wanted their heads to be high because this was a great year.”

Amesbury/Whittier's Jake Harlow brought home the Haverhill Christmas Tournament MVP following a 39-save performance against Stomeham.
