Barbanti takes crown

Andover's Delia Barbanti won the 200 (25.38), one of three local champions including Haverhill's Jayla Kitchings (100 hurdles) and North Andover's Sarah Lavery (high jump) at the Weston Twilight Invitational on Saturday.

Golden Warrior Lauren Olson was second in the javelin (106-8) and Methuen's Geraldine Gomez was eighth in the shot put (33-1).

Saindon takes Weston title

North Andover's Evan Saindon won the discus with a 139-9 to lead local placers at the Weston Twilight Invitational on Saturday. 
 
Andover's Matt Campbell placed second in the pole vault (12-0) and Methuen's Roan Marcano took third in the 400 hurdles (54.90). 
 
Haverhill's 4x200 relay of Sean Glass, DJ Cunningham, Hayden Makerow and Keith May were third (1:30.52) and the Pentucket sprint medley relay (Peter Lopata, Ryan Kiley, Keegan O'Keefe, Jack Clohisy) placed third in a school-record 3:38.27.

Sachems can't hold off Weston

The Pentucket boys basketball team held a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but the Sachems couldn't hold off a late comeback effort by Weston as the Sachems were upset 49-48 in the Division 3 North quarterfinals. Weston took the lead with about 1:30 to play after a series of Pentucket turnovers, and the Sachems couldn't make the last big play it needed to regain the lead down the stretch. Jake Etter led the Sachems with 14 points and Spencer Pacy had 13 as Pentucket finishes the season 19-3.

Duo leads Wildcats

 

HAVERHILL — Whittier senior Demario Scarpegnato couldn't keep up his torrid scoring pace Tuesday night, but he continued to elevate the Wildcats.

After averaging 27 points in his previous three games, Scapegnato was held to 17 but his 15 rebounds and all-around intensity helped Whittier surge past Weston, 57-47, in the opening round of the Division 3 North tournament.

 Whirttier Tech's boys erupted for 26 points in the fourth quarter to earn its fourth win of the year, surging past Weston 58-55. Richie Vazquez had six 3-pointers and a season-high 22 points for the Wildcats.
