Sophomores Kerri Finneran, Caitlin Milner and Liz Medford supplied every goal and both assists while classmate Ava Perrotta pitched a shutout as Central Catholic bounced back from a season-opening loss with a 3-0 victory over Beverly.

Methuen trailed 15-3 in the first set, rallied to take the set 25-22 and rolled the rest of the way for a 3-0 win over Beverly. Carolina Rodriguez led the Rangers in service points (14) and digs (22) and Sam Driend added 13 kills.

Haverhill grabbed an early 11-point lead, but could not keep up that momentum and fell to Beverly 87-50 in the Division 1 Round of 32 on Friday. Jeremy Valdez scored a team-high 12 points for the Hillies.

Haverhill volleyball whipped Beverly in its state tourney opener, 3-0. The Burdier sisters and Lexi DeOliveira starred.

Methuen's girls scored on goals by Courtnee Pickles and Kiera Fitzpatrick in the first half and then relied on its defense to defeat Beverly 2-1 in a Div. 1 preliminary round game.   

Sam Driend had a career-high 35 kills in just three games as Methuen swept Beverly to finish the regular season at 12-8.

Methuen's softball team continued its late season surge, scoring in the bottom of the ninth for a 3-2 win over Beverly in the Division 1 first round. Brooke Tardugno doubled and came home on a Kiele Coleman single for the winning run. Freshman Ilene Rickard went the distance for the win, striking out 14 while throwing a 5-hitter. The Rangers (12-5) will  face a major challenge Wednesday at unbeaten Peabody (15-0) and its super freshman pitcher Abby Bettencourt, who threw a perfect game at Haverhill on Monday. 

North Andover held off upset-minded Beverly in the North first round, 5-3. Derrek Finn, Trevor Crosby and Nick Ankiewicz each drove in a run. 

Methuen's boys hockey team ended its season on a high note, defeating Beverly 6-4. Owen Kneeland had a goal and two assists for the Rangers (8-9-1).

Junior Ben Williamson made some big saves in net and Cole Fagan got the game-winner as North Andover (11-3-5) edged Beverly, 2-1,
