Methuen's boys hoop team held off a hard-charging Billerica squad for a 59-56 victory. In what head coach Matt Curran termed "a monster game," Ryan Freeman went off for 20 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks, while Kyle Mansour added 15 points and 10 rebounds. "Those two have been carrying us this year and they did it again (last night)," said Curran.

Double Trouble

Methuen finished up an 8-2 season with a sweep of Central Catholic and Dracut. Methuen's Samantha McGovern and Victoria Daigle tied for the all-ariound title with 34.7 totals. Central, which beat Billerica, was led by Maddie Arndt (season best 9.1 on beam) and Giana Contrada and Jamie Maffeo excelled in the all-around.

Warriors take title

Andover closed out its MVC gymnastics season with a bang, sweeping a tri-meet over previously unbeaten Chelmsford as well as Billerica to win the league title. Six Warrior athletes posted personal bests in the meet including all-around winner Courtney Carver (from 34.35 to 36.0) and Jesse Livingston in the vault (9.2 to 9.3).

Andover survives

Ally Fazio hit two big 3-pointers and forced a tough late 3-pointer as Andover survived upset-minded Billerica, 53-52. Fazio harrassed the Indians into an air ball but they scored a layup at the buzzer. Billerica led 41-40 after three. Nicole Boudreau (23 points, 6 3-pointers) and Andover had just enough for their 25th straight win.

Methuen head wrestling coach Bill James picked up his 300th career win as the unbeaten Rangers (13-0) — sparked by a pin from freshman 106-pounder Cuong Nguyen — defeated Billerica 54-21. James, who also coached at Ipswich, Hamilton-Wenham, Bishop Guertin and Nashua, is 183-52-1 in 11 years at Methuen.
