Hyman's heroics

Jack Hyman racked up a ridiculous five points (three goals, two assists) in the North Andover boys hockey team's 7-0 romp over Amesbury. The Ryans (Gillespie and Sifferlen) added a goal and an assist each, and Mike Levy and Ryan Aresnault rounded out the Knights' scoring. Ryan Whyte finished with 14 saves in the shutout.

 Amesbury got its first tie of the year against Lynnfield. Mike Dragonas (high hurdle), Kevin Johnston (40), Alex Tamburello (2-mile), Patrick Fuller (1000), Peter Siess (mile), Matt Kilmartin (shot put), and the mile relay team of Jeff Fortuna, Dragonas, Johnston, and Tamburello all had first place finishes for the Indians.

 Pentucket had a stellar meet in a win over River Rival Amesbury. Emily Funk (40 hurdles, 6.6), Brittany Adams (40 dash, 5.6), Amy Babeu (2-mile, 12:55), Sarah Pearsall (shot, 27-6.5), Stephanie Fitzgerald (300, 43.3), Valerie Grim (600, 1:43, April O'Brien (1000, 3:13), Alanna Poretta (mile, 5:38), and the 4x400 relay team of Bernadette Corrado, Julia Quattrini, Breanna Yocum, and Grim (4:57) all had first place finishes for the Sachems. For the Indians Alyssa Harrison had a first place finish in the high jump.

Big game for Spears

It ended up being a big night for Georgetown's Jaymie Spears, but you wouldn't have guessed it would turn out that way in the first half. In spite of scoring just six points through the opening two quarters, Spears exploded for 21 points in the second half to close the game at 27 in the Royals' 74-48 victory over Amesbury. Joe Esposito (12 points) and Mike Messman (14 points) also shined in the victory.

Spears on target

Jaymie Spears had a huge second half against Amesbury, scoring 21 of his 27 points after the break as the Royals knocked off the Indians, 74-48. Joe Esposito (12 points) and Mike Messman (14 points) also contributed with stellar efforts for the Royals, whose press was too much for Amesbury.

 Ambesbury got its first win of the season on the strength of two terrific performances by Gabby Magnifico (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Dana Zahoruiko (15 points, 9 rebounds). Georgetown's Taryn O'Connell was the game's high scorer with 19 points.

St. Mary's Lynn 53, Amesbury 37

Kerri Salvatore led Amesbury 12 points and Dana Zahoruiko had nine points, but after St. Mary's got off to a quick start the Indians could not catch up. Coach Chris Perry said his team played solid in the second and third quarters.
