Corey Hawkins and Shane Surette drew RBI walks in the three-run seventh inning to lift Whittier past Pentucket, 7-5. Surette's was an epic 10-pitch at-bat. Brian Vezina singled in the other run.

Sachems Stymied

The task was steep for Pentucket, staring down the barrel of Blaise Whitman's fastballs with a share of the CAL Large title there for the taking. Triton's Whitman proved too tough, though, slamming the door in a two-hitter as the Vikes upset Pentucket, 4-0. With the Sachem loss, North Andover claimed sole possession of the CAL Large baseball title. Corey McNamara broke up Whitman's no-hit bid with a solid single in the sixth.

Pentucket qualifies for tourney

Parker Kelly hit an RBI infield, walkoff single to lead Pentucket 2-1 over Rockport in eight innings. D.J. Engelke scored the winning run. He began the bottom of the eighth with an infield single and reached third base on a fielder's choice, then a sac bunt.

Pentucket fought off all pressure, delivering four two-out RBIs in a 5-2 victory over Masconomet. Junior Connor McGuirk had the game's big hit, a single up the middle that scored two of the Sachems' three third-inning runs.

North Reading's bid for a perfect run through the Cape Ann League season was stunted by Pentucket's Jon Simard in a 2-0 Sachem shutout win yesterday. The Pentucket senior dazzled in a two-hit shutout of the Hornets, who had their 10-game win streak snapped.

North Andover wins with two in seventh

Four batters after Dan Rivet's tying home run, Dan Laorenza drove in the game winner with a two-out single to give North Andover (6-2) the Cape Ann League win.

Laorenza also drew a bases-loaded walk in a two-run third. Brandon Walsh, who had a pair of singles, earned the win with seven innings of six-hit pitching.

 Pentucket lefty Alex Ministeri fanned nine and walked three in a three-hitter as the Sachems knocked off Georgetown, 5-0. Jared Fudge and Corey McNamara laced two-out RBI hits in the fifth. Connor McGuirk added a two-run base hit in the seventh.

Greaney comes through for Green

Pentucket mustered up a dramatic finish in its 6-5 victory over Ipswich. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore Bobby Barry (three hits and two RBIs) singled and stole second base. Junior Jake Greaney (two hits and two RBIs) followed with a base hit up the middle. A hustling Barry beat the throw to the plate on a close play to give the Sachems the walk-off win.
