Goals from North Andover's Brian Pinho and Andover's Tyler Bird in the third period broke open a tense battle as St. John's Prep toppled Central Catholic, 4-2, to advance to the Super 8 semifinals. Lloyd Hayes and Christian Thompson answered Eagles goals to draw the Raiders even before St. John's timely surge to victory.

STONEHAM — Central Catholic goalie Colin Soucy did everything he could to hold off the St. John’s Prep onslaught.

The North Andover resident made saves standing up and sitting down. He made butterfly saves and stops from his stomach, and even took a shot square off his mask in a 40-save gem.

LOWELL — Taking the ice as the overwhelming underdog — a No. 8 seed facing off against a No. 1-ranked squad with just two losses for the season — Central Catholic skated in with one goal in mind.

STONEHAM — With the eyes of approximately 1,000 fans fixed on him, Central Catholic’s Corey Webber saw his opportunity and called for the puck.

“I yelled to Kevin (Regan) to get me the puck,” said Webber. “I took a quick shot, got the rebound and put it in. Then the whole team came at me and jumped on me. It was just a dream. I couldn’t believe it.”

Central Catholic outshot Waltham 38-18 put had to work hard to pull out a 2-1 win. Corey Webber and Kevin Regan scored for the Raiders.

Central Catholic's hockey team defeated Chelmsford for the second time this season, 5-3, and clinched the Merrimack Valley Conference crown in the process. Alex Lester had two goals and an assist for the Raiders (12-3-3) and Corey Webber and Kevin Regan both had a goal and two assists.

Nick Gorski had two goals and two assists and Corey Webber added a goal and two assists as Central Catholic blitzed Billerica 6-0. Colin Soucy (28 saves) had the shutout.

The game was tied 2-2 after a period, but Central Catholic pulled away for a 5-2 win over Acton-Boxboro. Mike Kelleher scored twice and Christian Thompson added a goal and two assists.

Sophomore Eric Robbins and freshman Chad Thompson each scored their first career varsity goal as Central Catholic rolled over Westford Academy 8-1.
