Reggies fight, bow out

Greater Lawrence Tech fought to the end, bringing the tying run to the plate in the seventh before falling to Weston in the Division 3 North tourney opener, 8-6.
With two outs in the seventh, Oscar Reynoso and Marc Ayala singled, followed by Jon Alvarez, who reached on an error, scoring one. Angel Abreu followed with a two-run double, but the rally ended there, as did the Reggies season.

Grand win

Angel Abreu stroked a grand slam in the fourth inning and the next hitter, Juan Maldonado, also homered to lead Greater Lawrence 19-4 over Lynn Tech.

Juan Maldonado was 4 for 4, hit for the cycle and drove in five runs as Greater Lawrence beat Chelsea 14-3 in five innings. "In 33 years I've never had someone hit for the cycle, now I've had two this year (Maldonado, Manny Rosario)," said Reggie coach Kevin Maloney.

Walk-off win

Manny Rosario singled, stole second, went to third on a bad throw on the steal and scored the winning run on a wild pitch as Greater Lawrence walked off with an eight-inning, 6-5 decision over Shawsheen. The Reggies spread the wealth as five different players had RBIs, the biggest coming from Marc Ayala, Jonathan Alvarez, Angel Abreu and Juan Maldonado in a four-run fifth innig that tied the contest.
