Riley Whittier advance over Royals

Kayla Riley carried a no-hitter into the seventh for Whittier Tech and the Wildcats held off a late Georgetown charge, 5-2, in the Division 3 North softball sectional first-round matchup.

The win was the second in as many days for the Cats, who look to make in 3 for 3 today in the North quarters at Mount Alvernia, 4 p.m.

Riley finished with a snappy three-hitter, striking out five.

Offensively, Dominique Ortiz put the Cats on the board in the first with an RBI triple. She and Josie Sanchez popped two-run hits as Whittier broke it open with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Shannon O'Brien, Jennifer Nutter and Ali Newbury had hits in the bottom half of the frame to get the Royals on the scoreboard.
