Super soph

Sophomore Ashley Conway, moved to the third spot in the batting order, was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBIs to help surging Salem smack Nashua North 10-3 in a Division 1 first round game. Brittany Wallace followed from the leadoff spot with three hits and two RBIs and leadoff batter Amanda Bickford was 2 for 3.

Denning delivers

 

Rachel Denning slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to lift Salem over ace pitcher Sarah Lavallee and manchester Central 3-2. Amanda Bickford was 2 for 4 and scoresd the first run for Salem on an RBI hit by Brittany Wallace (2 for 4). The Blue Devils enter next week's Division 1 tournament with a 16-2 record.

Two Blue Devil heroes

Montana Davis' two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning led Salem softball to a 4-3 walkoff victory over Bishop Guertin.

Katie Dawson's strong relief pitching also saved the day for the Blue Devils. Dawson came in with the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the seventh inning. She allowed just one run to keep her team in the game.

Lead off spark

 

Switched to the leadoff spot, freshman Brooke Murphy had three hits, scored twice, drove in a pair of runs and made a great defensive play at second base as Salem (11-2) defeated Alvirne 9-5. Rachel Towler pitched a one-hitter over five innings, striking out seven, for the win.

Freshman Brooke Murphy was 4 for 4, scored twice, drove in two runs and made a great defensive play as Salem blanked Merrimack 13-0 in five innings. Six different batters had at least two hits for the Blue Devils (11-1).

Towler terrific

With Salem reeling and trailing Dover, 3-1, Rachel Towler hit the mound in the third and took charge, shutting down the Green Wave the rest of the way, striking out seven and giving her teammates a shot to rally. And rally the Blue Devils did, coming back to win, 5-3, to stay perfect at 8-0. Brittany Wallace's two-run single highlighted Salem's three-run third.

Salem bats erupt again

 

DERRY —There's something new and something old about this year's Salem softball team.

As in the past, the Blue Devils are among the elite teams in New Hampshire. In fact, after yesterday's 18-2 romp over Pinkerton, they're currently the only unbeaten Division 1 team with a 7-0 record.
