Gray, Georgetown roll over Essex Tech

Junior Richie Gray made quite the splash in his postseason mound debut, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning as Georgetown High knocked off Essex Tech, 7-0, in the Division 4 North quarterfinals.
With one out in the seventh, Gray surrendered a solid double and left to a rousing ovation as Kyle Greenler finished up.
"Richie was wheeling and dealing, pounding the strike zone," said Royals coach Justin Spurr. "We let him try for it. He pitched a great game. Our defense was phenomenal all-around. Tom Long, the freshman, kept the no-hitter alive with a couple of brilliant plays at second base. Brett Mastrangelo ran down a sure double in right for another out."
Offensively, Long and Alex Bornholdt had three hits apiece. One of Bornholdt's was a towering home run over the scoreboard in left.
Ryan Slack doubled in a pair.
Thursday, Georgetown will face O'Bryant and a time and place to be determined in the Division 4 North semis.
