As the calendar turns to June and the stakes in high school baseball circles get greater with each new game, Dean remains as calm and carefree as someone laying on the beach of some remote island. He spun another gem yesterday, fanning 12 Tewksbury hitters in a complete game outing to lead the Falcons to a 3-1 triumph in a Division 2 North quarterfinal contest at the Twi-Field.

PEABODY -- Pat Dumas is accustomed to getting saves for the Peabody High baseball team. Last night, the junior closer's performance could be characterized as more of a rescue.

Facing a five-game week, Peabody coach Mark Bettencourt knew his pitching staff needed time to regroup for the stretch run. Dumas' complete-game victory -- in his first varsity start -- was just what the Tanners were looking for.

Either last Friday's loss to Methuen at Cooperstown angered the Tewksbury High baseball team, or they just want to send the league a message.

Two days after pounding MVC Large power Andover, the No. 1 Redmen smothered their top small division competition Haverhill, 7-0, yesterday here at the Stadium.

ANDOVER | A Warrior "stinker," enhanced by a Tewksbury lineup laden with voracious bats, ended any chance of perfection in the Merrimack Valley Conference.
